At the 52nd AIR Academic Salon on 11 September, AIR Chief Scientist Hang Li walked through the three technical lines that matter for general-purpose robots — manipulation, mobility and interaction — covering the VLA and VLM routes, the “data pyramid” for collecting manipulation data, the case for VLA over world-action models, long-term memory architectures such as M3Agent, the Real-to-Sim pipeline behind Lucida, and online reinforcement learning for continued improvement after deployment.
