In September this year, AIR welcomed two engineering PhDs - Wei Sun, co-founder and CEO of changjing.ai, and Jian Ouyang, CEO of Kunlunxin Technology Co.
Engineering PhD education aims to cultivate innovative leaders in the field, requiring researchers with solid and in-depth theoretical knowledge and rich cutting-edge industrial practical experience. Unlike academic PhDs, the education of engineering PhDs is oriented to solving complex engineering problems, with more emphasis on improving application capabilities and responding to industrial needs. Based on their own work experiences and research perspectives, Wei Sun and Jian Ouyang will start a new journey at AIR to further deepen academic exchanges, expand their research horizons, and explore the changes and innovations in the AI industry together with top international scientists and industry leaders.
Before choosing to pursue their PhD at AIR, Wei Sun and Jian Ouyang had already made remarkable achievements in the industry. After graduating from Peking University, Wei Sun joined Google and worked there for four years, gaining a broad vision and international perspective. After that, he joined Baidu as General Manager of Baidu Smart City Business Development Department, responsible for Baidu Smart City business as a whole, cultivating and developing two important directions: City Brain and Smart Transportation.
Jian Ouyang is now the CEO of Kunlunxin Technology Co., Ltd. and previously served as the chief R&D architect of chips at Baidu, working on hardware and software systems for a long time, and the projects he was responsible for were all applied in production environments on a large scale and had a strong influence in industry and academia.
