Dr. HongJiang Zhang, is the Chairman of Beijing Academy of Artificial Intelligence (a non-profit research institution). In 2022, he was elected to the National Academy of Engineering for his technical contributions and leadership in the area of multimedia computing.
He served as CEO of Kingsoft, managing director of Microsoft Advanced Technology Center (ATC) and chief technology officer (CTO) of Microsoft China Research and Development Group (CRD). Dr. Zhang was also an Assistant Managing Director and a founding member of Microsoft Research Asia.
As a Fellow of the Institute of Electric and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and Association of Computing Machines (ACM), Dr. Zhang is well known in the research community for his leadership in media computing and his pioneering work in video and image content analysis and search.
He was the recipient of the 2010 IEEE Computer Society Technical Achievement Award, 2012 ACM SIGMM Outstanding Technical Achievement Award, and the winner of 2008 "Asian-American Engineer of the Year" award.
