He said that the bot is still essentially a statistical-based language model and cannot really understand the problem of open domains. It is still actually based on probability in dealing with open domains, generating the next value based on the previous one. Also, there is still work to be done to pass the Turing test. As for how to improve it, NIE noted that if it could put the right knowledge that would answer the question into what it says, "that would be awesome".
